Barton Grange Garden Centre partner up with OJ’s Care this Christmas, to make Santa’s Grotto Autistic friendly, making it a magical experience for all.
Barton Grange Garden Centre, Preston have teamed up with OJ’s Care, a registered charity that provides activities for children with autism, learning difficulties and associated disorders, to help make Christmas that little bit calmer.
Barton Grange were approached by OJ’s Care to see if they could make their Grotto Autistic friendly. In order for them to so this this sufficiently they decided

the best way to do this was to team up with OJ’s Care Charity.
They dedicated one specific day where the Garden Centre is much quieter and calmer before the mad December rush, to ensure that they can offer not only an Autistic Friendly Santa Grotto, but an Autism friendly atmosphere all round.
The Grotto opened from 11am through to 7.30pm, so those of all ages could attend the event within and outside school hours.
Emma Connolly, head of events at Barton Grande said, “We aimed to cater to each child’s individual needs, whether this was turning the music down, moving animals and lights off, or even getting Santa and the elves to say a personal message. The customers were very appreciative and happy that we took on board and actioned what the child’s needs were.”
Barton Grange have said to receive some fantastic verbal feedback on the day, and are hoping to host the Autistic Friendly Day with OJ’s Care again in 2018.
